Not much is known about DizzyIzzy. So far, she has written two books in the Heartsong series: "Witch's Heartsong" and "Werewolf's Heartsong" (the one being reviewed).

The main theme in "Werewolf's Heartsong" has to be "misery builds character."
In line with the running trope of the "rejected pup" prevalent in modern Werewolf novels, Alora goes through literal hell inside her household, being put through torture and seclusion, a situation that compels her to excel in both her physique and her combat skills.
During the course of the story, Alora progressively becomes stronger and is even able to defy her own family, detaching herself from them by changing her name.
Despite this newfound independence, she now carries the heavy weight of "unrequited love" after having been nastily rejected by her fated mate in public. In consequence, she feels a sense of dread, for she convinced herself she would never find a suitable mate.

Sarah was the spoiled sister who, on account of being blonde and having fairer skin, received all the love and affection that was denied to Alora. She is ruthless and cruel, though still capable of exerting her influence upon large groups for the purpose of getting what she wants. However, she would also be despised by a bulk of the pack.

Plot: Heartsong's Hour
The novel begins with Alora waking up to the sound of her alarm clock and recalling how much she despises it, for it reminds her of the fryers at the fast food restaurant she works in. She has to use a bike to get there since her parents would not allow her to own a car. Meanwhile, Sarah, her spoiled sister, gets everything she wants and needs.
Alora is despised by her family due to her dark complexion and hair, though she occasionally receives praise from other pack members. Sarah never hides her contempt for Alora and is not happy with just letting her live her life.
One day, during a pack picnic, Sarah and her clique of friends (lackeys) suddenly turn on Alora and launch a vicious assault against her, throwing her down a nearby river. She manages to survive and arrives at a shore, barely alive, where she falls unconscious.
Alora's Protectors Arrive
Alora wakes up to the voice of two men by the mud, one younger than the other. They examine and recognize her, She also acknowledges that the older man is the pack's Alpha and the younger one is his son. They tend to her wounds, and over time, Alora and Dariel become close friends. He, alongside Alpha Andrew and Damien, would protect her from her own family. It is at this juncture that Alora changes her last name to Luna Heartsong.
On a certain day, Alora's sister arrived with her boyfriend, Matt. The latter immediately perceives a scent coming from Alora, signaling she's his fated mate. She also captures that same scent from him. However, her feelings get crushed as Matt proceeds to repudiate her in front of everyone.
She would likewise reject him, causing him to crumble to the ground in agony. Sarah then swears vengeance on Alora for humiliating both her and her boyfriend in public, but, at this point, Alora is ready to confront her enemies head-on (she had been training with the Alpha's Elite soldiers, after all,) particularly in the Alpha Class arena!

Hottest Chapters in "Werewolf's Heartsong"
Chapter 2 already gifts us with quite a bit of action as we witness Sarah's attempted murder of her own sister, which ends in the latter meeting an Alpha.
Chapters 12 through 18 are peculiarly intense in that they portray what transpires during the Alpha Class competition, with Sarah getting more and more deranged after seeing her sister defeat her adversaries.
Writing Style: Not Exactly a Heartsong!
"Werewolf's Heartsong" is written in prose form, contrary to what the title suggests. It's a modern-day urban fantasy in every sense of the term. It contains lots of descriptives, but they don't disrupt the narrative's pacing.
Nevertheless, you may find some punctuation inconsistencies here and there. If you want a more polished reading experience, check out the "remastered" version.
Is Werewolf's Heartsong a Good Read?
Considering the abundance of mediocre Werewolf novels that plague the web currently, "Werewolf's Heartsong" is surprisingly refreshing and engaging. For once, we're not simply treated with yet another sappy "Luna meets Alpha" formula. Instead, there's a marked focus on action, with the romance kicking in a bit later. Overall, it's a nice change of rhythm from what we've been accustomed to.
